At Grace Baptist Church, we are passionate about introducing children to the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. Our prayer for our kids echos the lyrics of that great hymn for the young, Savior, Like a Shepherd Lead Us, when it says "Early, let us turn to Thee...Early let us seek Thy favor... Early let us do Thy Will." Therefore, we offer a number of opportunities for children to know Christ, including:
We offer age-graded Sunday School classes for all children. It is our prayer that our children will be "a planting of the Lord" and through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ become "Oaks of Righteousness" (Isaiah 61:3). To this end, qualified and gifted teachers present the gospel to children (typically using Children Desiring God curricula). Classes begin at 9:15 am, run 1 hour, and are as follows:
- Nursery - For infants and toddlers, birth to 2 years old. Various teachers.
- Acorns - For kids ages 3 to 5. Taught by Barb and Jenna Leaman.
- Sprouts - For kids in Grades 1 thru 3. Taught by Barb Johnson and Robin Pappas.
- Seedlings - For kids in Grades 4 thru 6. Taught by Jamie Theobald and Kim Wilson.
- Saplings - For youth in Grades 7 thru 12. Taught by Tom Dewey and Ethan Yanda
Summer Sunday School
During the summer semester (June, July, and August) we give our faithful teachers a break and join together for one, big family-integrated class. The class meets at 9:15 am in the Fellowship Hall each Sunday morning. This summer Elders Dave and Matt will be teaching through Ephesians 6:10ff, about how to engage in Spiritual Warfare in the strength of the Lord, and how to put on the Full Armor of God. Along the way we will sing, memorize Scripture, and engage in activities and illustrations as we learn these important truths.
At Grace Baptist Church, children as welcomed and expected to be a part of a family-integrated Worship Service. From time to time, children actively participate with special songs, readings, or other elements of the worship service.
Though nursery is available for infants, and there is a small room beside the sanctuary for feeding moms and/or disciplining dads, we believe children should be encouraged and taught to participate in every aspect of the worship service, including listening to the preaching of God's Word. Do not hesitate to talk to one of the Elders if you have questions about this philosophy, or would like help in teaching your children along these lines.
Each Wednesday evening throughout the school year, children in Grades K-6 are invited to participate in our Kids' Klub program. Led by Tracy Howard and Theresa Gaudet, this program instructs kids in the basics of the Christian faith. There are songs, games, memory verses, Bible lessons, and other great activities. In our 2013-2014 Kids' Klub season, children learned about the various aspects of a worship service. At the end of the Kids' Klub season, the leaders and children put on a program for the youth and adults featuring some of the things they have learned.
